Victory in BELGIUM:
new Belgian HQ

In January 2023, the team comprising assar, Artbuild Architects, ANMA, VK achitectes + engineers, Erik Dhont Landscape Architects won the competition to design the new Belgian Defence Headquarters in Evere!

On this 11.4-hectare site opposite NATO headquarters, the new 113,000 m² HQ will accommodate 4,000 employees in a secure, rational complex, a comfortable living environment and exemplary energy performance – Nearly Zero Energy Building.

The manifest architecture of the new offices, combining the main triangular defensive body with an open, planted circular interior agora, weaves the collective bond of the reunion of the ten or so buildings of the 3 Belgian armed forces within a new, protective headquarters, standard-bearer of the institutional and strategic missions of Defense.

This project also represents a significant new stage in the agency’s 10-year investment in Belgium, already renewed in 2019 with the successful bid for the new NATO Military Command Center in Casteau, and in 2021 with the opening of a branch in Brussels.
