the wide, the void
and the space
This site is marked by the force emanating from the void and the large spaces which give the maritime landscape its particular identity. Despite recent constructions, this force persists in the site current dimension, its relationship to water and the sky.
Between sky and pond, the building of the docks-café aims to support this spirit of the place. With its slender profile 300-meter long, it slips like a horizontal line in the landscape of ponds. This is reinforced by a fifth facade: a large pleated roof which in every way gives an element of identity, exceptional and natural to this large hall.
starting
with what is there
For ANMA, the existing strengths are the starting point of this momentum towards new metropolitan facilities. The agency thus questions the place of new constructions linked to the ambitious program the entire hall is to accommodate. It pays particular attention to the urban and architectural silhouette of the project.
a new public space
The project raises this horizontal force and gives a new dynamic to the quay by creating a belvedere over the city. From the eastern end of the hall, the thickness between the roof ridge and the quay line increases cantilevered up to 13m high at the other end.
The horizontal on the quays, taking off from the ground, creates an unprecedented line on a new forecourt. The identity of the convention center is generated by the creation of a belvedere and a public space connected to the new footbridge coming from the station. The original proportions of the west facade stand out against the sky in the pools, and the sub-committee and reception rooms naturally occupy the space of this belvedere.
