renewal of public spaces and to densify
wasteland
At the inter-municipal level, the district of Mantes-la-Jolie station is a key area of articulation of the different districts of Mantes-la-Jolie, Buchelay and Mantes-la-Ville, on both sides of the railways. It is made up of a heterogeneous urban fabric: old single-family houses, 20th century apartment buildings, neglected buildings, facility (police station, police station, relay car park, etc.).
The heritage, either built or vegetation, constitutes the identity of this predominantly residential neighborhood. As part of a gradual transformation of the site and in particular the area around the station, a new treatment of public space and a reasoned densification of wasteland will allow a renewal of its image, respectful of its identity.
turning a passageway into a destination
To respond to the various identified challenges, the development of the neighborhood must be part of a programmatic and typological strategy on three scales:
1 / The train station square, interface between the city center and this major multimodal hub;
2 / The train station district, the gateway to the City of Mantes-la-Jolie, with its own identity and varied uses;
3 / The extended area of the station hub, on both sides of the railway tracks, including some strong urban atmospheres and specific programs (CAZ Mantes-University, Innovaparc, Train station, City Center).
This urban project also aims to transform a passageway and waiting room into a place of destination with diverse uses. While the development plan for the district is being set up, and the site linked to the upcoming arrival of the RER E in Mantes-la-Jolie is on the way, the first interventions are identified to initiate the renewal of image and use : pacification of the station forecourt, greening of public spaces, signage, etc.
